This programme provides you with essential knowledge and skills relating to building and spatial design, building services, construction technology and professional practice in architecture. The programme utilizes special studio facilities exclusively for HKU SPACE architectural studies students.  The programme also includes lots of exiting outside-classroom activities such as building and site visits and project research.

The programme aims to teach the foundation and intermediate techniques of using Rhinoceros in the production of 3-D models using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) geometry and make arrangement for export, annotation and plotting, as well as detailed explanation on and exploration of the NURBS topology and the practical application of efficient modeling techniques, modeling strategy and advanced surfacing.

This course is suitable for designers in the fields of Architecture, Interior Design, and Product / Industrial Design.

Nowadays, parametric modelling, as a means to design and explore complex architectural spaces, has become an essential tool in contemporary architecture practice. Nevertheless, due to its relative young age, there are still many practising design professionals whom have not had the opportunity to receive formal training on this technique.

This programme, building on our foundational Certified Training for Rhinoceros Level 1 and 2 short courses, will be an intermediate level training to provide the comprehensive knowledge and technique required for parametric modelling. In the long run, this programme will also enable graduates to pursue more advanced architectural digital practices, such  as real-time physics simulator for building structure (Kangaroo), virtual environment simulator (VR), computer-controlled fabrication (Laser cutting, CNC and 3D printing), and free form design etc.

This introductory course is designed for those interested in the concept and mechanics of virtual-reality and Metaverse spatial design. Through the introduction of spatial design principles and 3D modelling, students will learn the fundamentals of building architectural virtual spaces.

Urban Sketching, where artist practices on-location sketching, is a new worldwide phenomenon and growing rapidly. Students will be introduced to the art of Urban Sketching with techniques to help them adapt to this wonderful life-long hobby. Students will also learn the basics of capturing a view on-location, methods to approach a sketch and ways to have fun with the sketching technique.

You will learn about local universities' architecture programmes, the process to becoming a registered architect in Hong Kong and the skills require to design and present your project graphically and verbally. 

Mock design studio, and sharing by current architecture students make up the content of this informative course.

Architects use drawings as a means of communication to the client before the actual buildings are constructed. Their representation must be concise and clear. This course will teach students the basic technical drawings of floor plan, sectional drawing, and one point perspective using famous buildings from around the world as a starting point. Have fun learning about building design while learning to draw technically.

The representation of creative ideas and design works are important in seeking successful enrollment into architecture schools. This course will help you prepare and individualize your portfolio for university application.

Students will be introduced to the theory of zero-carbon building, international case studies, architectural and engineering design strategy, comparative studies of related international guidelines, high-level assessment methods, and challenges encountered in Hong Kong.

The course is designed to enable students with different backgrounds, even non-architecture students, to understand the basics of renewable energy, strategy to integrate renewable energy into buildings, renewable energy policy, high-level renewable energy analysis method, and challenges encountered in Hong Kong. Practical case studies, examples and materials will be provided to simulate and demonstrate the design decision process.

This course emphasizes the balance of sound theoretical understanding as well as practical skills to manage embodied carbon. Students will be introduced to understand the basic concept of embodied carbon, assessment method, reduction opportunities in the design and construction stage, and associated project management skills.

This course covers in detail all aspects of statutory control for the design, construction and completion of buildings in Hong Kong.

The principles, practices and application of the building codes, including the Buildings Ordinance, Building Regulations, Codes of Practices and the Practice Notes for Authorized Persons will be extensively discussed and explained.

Candidates for the Architects Registration Board/ Hong Kong Institute of Architects Professional Assessment who received their professional education overseas and others interested in learning about local building codes are welcome.

This is a training course aims at equipping students to have practical understanding of BEAM Plus assessment, and ability to manage and contribute to BEAM Plus assessment project. Lectures and case studies will be provided.

There is growing demand for more integrative understanding and holistic management of sustainable development challenges in both public policy making and business strategy development in Hong Kong.

The programme aims to equip students with advanced knowledge in the development of sustainability principles and the current practice of measurement tools used for assessing sustainability of building design and construction in Hong Kong.
